SPRINGFIELD — The Lebanon High School boys’ soccer team picked up a shutout win on Tuesday night over the Parkview Vikings at JFK Stadium, 2-0.
“It was a great win for us,” head coach Matt Jernigan said. “Parkview is a solid team and anytime you can get a win in the Ozark Conference, that is something to be proud of. Our boys probably played our most well-rounded and best game of the year.”
Jacob Reagan got the first goal of the night off an assist from Noah Anderson on a through ball that Reagan was able to run down and put away first touch.
The second goal came later in the contest off a corner kick.
“Jeremiah Rivera put in a great cross in the box,” said Jernigan. “Their (Parkview) keeper was able to reach over Jacob to get a punch out and Noah Anderson hit a rocket one touch past the keeper.”
Jernigan was proud of the game Rivera, Anderson, and Reagan played.
“Jeremiah was outstanding on the outside getting us multiple chances in the box,” he explained. “Those three (Rivera, Reagan, and Anderson) are such hard workers in the offseason and it was awesome to see it pay off for them (on Tuesday).”
Jernigan said freshman AJ Brown got the clean sheet in the goal and the Lebanon defense of Curtis Frazier, Ethan Fisher, Aiden Hall and Jordan Light played outstanding.
Moving forward into the season, Jernigan is hoping the team can build off their win at Parkview and keep the momentum rolling.
“We have been in a lot of games lately, but just haven’t been able to score,” he stated. “It was good for us to see the ball go in the net a couple of times. We have been working a lot on combination play and connecting those passes in the final third.
“If we can clean it up there like we did against Parkview, we feel good about our chances. Our defense has been playing outstanding, now we are starting to put that scoring with it.”
The ‘Jackets are scheduled to play at Laquey on Thursday afternoon.
